Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan Release Nostalgic Single ‘Young & Dumb’

LOS ANGELES, CA — Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan have reunited for a nostalgic new single titled “Young & Dumb,” released Friday, May 9, 2025. The collaboration celebrates their shared pop-punk roots and friendship dating back to their early careers in the early 2000s.
The song opens with Lavigne recalling her journey, singing, “2002 and I’m hangin’ on the tour bus/ Leavin’ my hometown, Napanee… chasin’ my dreams.” Simple Plan’s lead singer, Pierre Bouvier, joins her in the second verse, reflecting on their lasting bond in today’s music scene.
In the vibrant music video, the stars take over a vintage motel, performing in an empty pool and interacting playfully throughout the property. Lavigne shared her excitement for the project, stating, “This is such a full-circle moment… We wanted to capture that special time in our lives when everything was new.”
As part of the release celebration, Lavigne will take over Billboard’s Instagram Stories, providing fans with a behind-the-scenes look at the music video. She mentions the influence of their years in the industry, adding, “It’s about friendship, nostalgia, and the way music has kept us connected through the years.”
Lavigne’s Greatest Hits Tour, featuring Simple Plan, kicks off later this month, starting May 25 in Bangor, Maine. The tour will cover several major cities throughout North America, adding to the excitement of their collaboration.
Bouvier expressed his thrill in working with Lavigne again, saying, “After years of touring and hanging out together, getting into the studio to work on this track was such a cool experience… We really hope they love ‘Young and Dumb’ as much as we do.”
As they prepare for the tour, both artists look forward to sharing this new music with their fans, solidifying their enduring legacy in pop-punk music.
