Cape Fear Filming Midtown Atlanta High Museum

Atlanta, Georgia – This week, film crews will transform Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta as production for the new series “Cape Fear” begins. From Monday through Saturday, locals and workers near the High Museum of Art will notice increased activity as major scenes are filmed.

Cameras will roll from Wednesday to Saturday inside the museum, showcasing a gala event for Savannah elites. The event is humorously described in the city-approved film permit as a “fundraising event for the wrongfully convicted.” Overnight shooting is also planned.

Approximately 200 cast and crew members are expected to be present. While the permit does not confirm the presence of any celebrities, “Cape Fear” stars Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem and Amy Adams. The series has notable executive producers, including Martin Scorsese, who directed the original 1991 film of the same name, and Steven Spielberg.

In preparation for filming, several Midtown streets will experience partial closures. From Monday through Saturday, one lane will close on 16th Street between Arts Center Way and Peachtree Street, and on Arts Center Way between 15th Street and West Peachtree Street. Additionally, one lane of 15th Street will close from Wednesday to Saturday.

Atlanta police will assist motorists navigating the lane closures, as informed by the official permit. The museum will remain open to the public, with an adjusted entrance to the Stent Family Wing located at the top of the ramp off Peachtree Street.

This is not the first time the High Museum has served as a filming location. Several movies and TV shows have utilized the museum in previous years. According to Leshaun Cook, production manager for the Atlanta mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment, the crew for “Cape Fear” will maintain a similar setup to that of “The Resident,” which filmed in the area a few years ago.

“They won’t have any full street closures, but they’re going to take some parking lanes around the museum,” Cook said.

The series “Cape Fear” follows a married couple, featuring Anna, played by Adams, whose lives are disrupted when a notorious killer, portrayed by Bardem, is released from prison. Apple TV+ describes the show as a “tense, Hitchcockian thriller” exploring America’s fascination with true crime.

Production is set to continue from April 30 through October 15. An official release date has yet to be announced, but local reports suggest that viewers can look forward to the series soon.
