RJ Balaji-starrer ‘Singapore Saloon’ Divides Audiences with Messy Second Half
The RJ Balaji-starrer film ‘Singapore Saloon’ has left audiences divided with its messy second half. The movie starts off with an engaging and hilarious first half, but takes a confusing and preachy turn in the latter part.
‘Singapore Saloon’ tells the story of Kathir, played by RJ Balaji, who defies societal norms to pursue his passion for hairstyling and become his own boss. However, tragedy strikes and derails his journey towards success.
Director Gokul and RJ Balaji’s real-life personalities shine through in the first half, with heartwarming scenes and hilarious sequences. Sathyaraj and Robo Shankar deliver standout performances as Kathir’s father-in-law and brother-in-law.
However, the second half of the film loses its way with a collage of ideas and a series of predictable subplots. The film bites off more than it can chew, incorporating tropes from various other movies. RJ Balaji’s character is thrown around by circumstances, and his eventual success lacks resonance.
The lack of well-written female characters in the film is another drawback. ‘Singapore Saloon’ works best within the confines of Kathir’s house and family, but fails to maintain its captivating quality in the later parts.
In conclusion, ‘Singapore Saloon’ is a middling and muddled drama that fails to recognize its strengths. RJ Balaji delivers a convincing performance, but the film’s messy second half leaves much to be desired.
