J Balvin Lights up Quebec City with Fiery Reggaeton Performance
In a vibrant display of cultural diversity, Quebec City was electrified on Sunday night by the pulsating rhythms of J Balvin, the Colombian music sensation. The Plains of Abraham became a melting pot of fans hailing from various Hispanic countries like Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain, Peru, Argentina, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.
J Balvin, known for his scorching reggaeton hits, took the stage by storm perched atop a massive cube. He kicked off the evening with his international hit from 2018, “Mi Gente,” seamlessly transitioning to “Colmillo” featuring Tainy and Young Miko, and “Dientes” in collaboration with Usher and DJ Khaled.
Initially subdued during the opening acts by Gale and Ivan Cornejo, which felt mismatched with the headliner, the crowd suddenly came alive. J Balvin, with his signature style of sunglasses and cornrowed hair, proclaimed his pride in his Colombian roots and Latin heritage, uniting the audience under the banner of the ‘Latino Gang.’
Accompanied by two fellow performers and six futuristic dancers, J Balvin, a rapper, singer, and producer from Medellin, kept the energy high throughout the show. The visual aesthetics of the performance were a celestial spectacle, with space-themed visuals on the giant screens, including dancing extraterrestrials and cosmic bodies.
Transitions between songs, as the fashion-forward artist changed costumes from a green leather jacket to a sequined ensemble, evoked a sense of connectedness akin to the iconic scene from E.T. The crowd enthusiastically embraced J Balvin’s chart-toppers, from the everyday anthems like ‘Reggaeton‘ and ‘Ginza‘ to the pulsating beats of ‘Loco Contigo,’ ‘Con Altura,’ ‘X,’ and ‘Amarillo.’
Throughout the night, festival-goers jumped, danced, and lit up their cell phones, following J Balvin’s infectious vibe until the final bow, where he graciously bared his torso, raised a glass, and beamed with satisfaction, leaving the audience on a high note.
