Bank of America Customers Experience Online Outage, Accounts Show $0 Balance
On Wednesday, Bank of America customers across the United States experienced difficulties accessing their online accounts, with some individuals reporting zero balances. According to the bank, the issues were swiftly addressed and mostly resolved by the afternoon.
In a statement, Bank of America stated, “Some clients are experiencing an issue accessing their accounts and balance information today. These issues are being addressed and have largely been resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
Reports of outages began shortly after noon Eastern Time, as documented by DownDetector, a platform that monitors website disruptions. By 3 p.m., around 5,000 customers had reported problems.
The online banking glitch provoked reactions from customers on social media. One customer wrote on Bank of America’s help account on X, “Anyone else showing $0 in their Bank of America accounts currently?” Another expressed frustration concerning the erroneous balance information, saying the experience was “extremely stressful.”
As detailed by several NBC New York employees, the affected areas included the banking app’s home screen, where balances appeared as zero or with placeholders. However, accessing individual account details often revealed accurate balances and transaction history.
Some users with multiple accounts noted inconsistencies, seeing correct balances for some accounts but not others, further adding to the confusion and concern.
While Bank of America did not disclose additional information on social media, they reassured customers of ongoing support. The bank’s social media team encouraged users to send private messages to resolve any lingering account-related issues.
