BBC One’s new Australian acquisition, High Country, takes viewers on a captivating journey through the stunning Australian Alps. The story revolves around Detective Andrea ‘Andie’ Whitford, who finds herself delving into a mysterious case in the Victorian High Country.
Five individuals have gone missing in the vast wilderness, propelling Andie into a gripping investigation filled with elements of murder, deceit, and revenge. The series, described as a fictional tale inspired by true events, promises an edge-of-the-seat experience for audiences.
Sue Deeks, the Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, praises the eerie setting and tense atmosphere of High Country, setting the stage for an enthralling narrative to unfold. Lead by Leah Purcell, the series was predominantly shot on location in the majestic Victorian Alps.
Leah Purcell, who plays Andie, expressed her admiration for the unique landscape, stating that it offers a different side of Australia rarely seen on screen. She highlighted the beauty of the Alps, contrasting with the traditional portrayal of the country in media.
High Country’s debut episode is set to air on BBC One at 9.10pm, immediately following the BBC News bulletin. Viewers can expect a continuous stream of episodes in the same timeslot in the following weeks, with all episodes also available for streaming on the BBC iPlayer.
