PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Dave Frankel, a cherished figure in Philadelphia broadcasting, has passed away at the age of 67. Known for his distinctive storytelling and humor, Frankel was a key member of the Action News team from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s.
Starting his career as an investigative reporter, Frankel quickly became a household name. In 1989, he transitioned from the investigative unit to the AccuWeather map, where he spent eight years connecting with viewers by sharing weather insights and his lively personality.
In 1996, Frankel broke new ground by becoming the station’s first tech reporter. At a time when concepts like email were emerging, he skillfully explained these complex topics to a broad audience, combining his passion for technology with an approachable style.
After leaving television, Frankel found a new calling in law, dedicating his efforts to advocating for children with special needs and their families. His commitment to serving others left a significant mark beyond his media career.
Dave Frankel succumbed to primary progressive aphasia, a form of dementia, early Wednesday morning. He is survived by his wife, Marjie, and their children, Bailey, Scott, and Charlie, cherished by friends and colleagues alike. The Action News staff extends its deepest condolences to his family.
