A well-known general practitioner in Dobsonville, Dr Michael Isabelle, tragically lost his life after being shot during a robbery at his practice in Soweto, Johannesburg. The incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon when three unidentified suspects gained entry to the surgery under false pretences that one of them required medical assistance.

Upon being let inside the consultation room by the receptionist, the suspects callously shot Dr Isabelle before making off with two cellphones belonging to staff members before fleeing the scene. It was reported by police spokesperson Col Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi that the victim was promptly transported to the closest medical facility for urgent care.

A case of attempted murder was initially opened in response to the incident. However, the charge will now be escalated to murder as Dr Isabelle tragically succumbed to his injuries the following morning. The community of Dobsonville has been devastated by the loss of Dr Isabelle, who had been a dedicated healthcare provider in the area for many years.

Expressing their condolences, members of the community, as well as colleagues and patients of Dr Isabelle, have taken to social media to mourn his passing and pay tribute to his compassionate and committed service as a GP.
