Beloved KUTV Reporter Paul Nelson Dies After Cancer Battle
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Paul Nelson, a prominent reporter for KUTV, died on October 15, 2025, after a prolonged fight with pancreatic cancer. He passed away at home, surrounded by his family, just weeks shy of his 52nd birthday.
Nelson was well-respected in Utah journalism, boasting over two decades of experience. His colleagues described him as a hard worker, a great storyteller, and a devoted family man. ‘He was loved and respected by everyone at the station,’ KUTV stated in a tribute.
After feeling unwell in early 2024, Nelson was diagnosed at Stage 2B of his cancer. In a 2024 interview, he shared, ‘When people are showing symptoms like mine, frequently it’s already Stage 4 cancer.’ His journey included invasive surgery, chemotherapy, and ongoing health struggles.
Throughout his illness, Nelson maintained a positive attitude. He often encouraged others to seek medical advice for any health concerns. ‘Do not be afraid to ask your doctor small questions… because if you have something serious that’s aggressive, who knows if a small wait could really hurt you,’ he cautioned.
Many local figures expressed their condolences following his passing. Utah Governor Spencer Cox tweeted, ‘Paul was one of the good guys, and I truly enjoyed spending time with him. We will deeply miss him and our prayers are with his family.’
Tributes poured in from colleagues who recognized his contributions to journalism and his empathy towards others. A fundraiser has been set up to assist his family with medical and funeral expenses. Nelson is survived by his wife, Erica, and their three children.
