Mumbai, India – Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, best known for his iconic role as Karna in the television epic Mahabharat, passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 68 after a prolonged battle with cancer. His death was confirmed by his co-star Firoz Khan, who expressed his grief on social media.

Dheer had been receiving treatment for cancer in recent months and had been in and out of the hospital. He was surrounded by family during his final moments. The cremation is scheduled for later today at 4:30 p.m. at Pawan Hans in Vile Parle, Mumbai.

Pankaj Dheer gained widespread fame for his portrayal of Karna in Mahabharat, which aired in 1988. His powerful performance earned him a special place in the hearts of Indian viewers, and he became a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. Dheer’s calm yet commanding presence as Karna made the character one of the most beloved figures in Indian television history.

The actor began his career with the film Poonam in 1981 and appeared in various lesser-known works before achieving fame. Other notable performances included roles in films مثل Soldier and Baadshah, and television series such as Chandrakanta and Devon Ke Dev… Mahadev.

His artistic legacy continues through his family. He is survived by his wife, Anita Dheer, son Nikitin Dheer, and daughter-in-law Kratika Sengar, who are also involved in the entertainment industry. Fans and colleagues have taken to social media to share their tributes, many recalling his kindness and talent.

In a statement, the Cine & TV Artistes’ Association expressed deep sorrow for the loss of Dheer, acknowledging his contributions to Indian television. His passing marks a significant loss for the industry, which remembers him as a gentle and impactful artist.
