Benicio del Toro’s Airport Encounter with TSA Sparks Laughter

New York, NY — Benicio del Toro shared a humorous run-in with TSA during a recent appearance on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers.’ The actor discussed the incident that occurred while he was traveling from Boston to Los Angeles.
Del Toro was stopped by a TSA worker who asked to inspect his carry-on bag. Inside, they found the script for his upcoming film, Wes Anderson’s ‘The Phoenician Scheme,’ printed in large font for easier reading. The script’s opening scene, titled ‘Interior Airplane: Bomb,’ drew laughter from the audience as Del Toro recounted.
As the TSA worker examined the material, del Toro explained it was a film script. However, the worker remained skeptical and called over five other TSA employees for assistance.
“Finally, the supervisor came over,” del Toro recalled. “He recognized me, probably from ‘Sicario‘ or ‘Traffic,’ and after a moment of tense scrutiny, they let me go.”
Del Toro expressed appreciation for the TSA worker, saying, “I give that guy a thumbs up because he was paying attention. You gotta give that guy credit.” Seth Meyers added a playful commentary about the potential dangers of ignoring suspicious items.
In ‘The Phoenician Scheme,’ del Toro stars as Anatole ‘Zsa-Zsa’ Korda, a wealthy man with an unusual history of airplane-related incidents. Stories like these are common, as many celebrities have faced airport security challenges. Recently, actor Hugh Grant criticized an immigration officer at Heathrow for his treatment of Grant’s children during a security check.
Del Toro’s tale serves as a light-hearted reminder of the unique experiences travelers face, especially those in the public eye.
