UC Berkeley Students Warned About Possible Travel Issues During Spring Break

BERKELEY, Calif. — International students at the University of California, Berkeley, are being cautioned that they may face challenges returning to campus after spring break due to ongoing visa issues and logistical complications.
The warnings come as students prepare for a week-long break starting March 25, 2024. The university’s International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) issued an advisory highlighting potential travel restrictions and the importance of keeping documentation updated.
“We want to ensure that our international students are fully aware of the current travel landscape,” said ISSO Director Linda Tran. “It’s crucial for them to have all the necessary paperwork in order before leaving the country.”
Students have been encouraged to consult with the ISSO about their travel plans and to carry required documents, including updated visa paperwork and travel signatures. It is also recommended they monitor any travel advisories from the U.S. State Department.
In related news, the university is currently addressing various safety concerns following a spike in smash-and-grab burglaries targeting local camera gear shops. This string of thefts has raised alarms amongst the community, prompting discussions on campus safety measures.
Additionally, an upcoming strike planned by two labor unions representing UC staff is set for April 1, which could affect various services during the spring semester. As the campus gears up for these developments, officials continue to encourage students to stay informed and proactive regarding their safety and well-being.
