Biden Criticizes Elon Musk Over Alleged Illegal Work in the U.S.
President Joe Biden has criticized Elon Musk for alleged double standards regarding immigration, following revelations that the Tesla CEO may have worked unlawfully in the United States. During a campaign event at a union hall in Pittsburgh on Saturday, Biden highlighted the discrepancy between Musk’s past actions and his current stance on immigration.
Biden pointed out that Musk, who is originally from South Africa, was reportedly an undocumented worker in the U.S. after moving to Palo Alto, California, in 1995 to pursue a graduate program at Stanford University. However, Musk never registered for classes and instead focused on his startup, according to a report from The Washington Post. The report cited company records, past associates, and legal documents to support these claims.
Musk has refuted these allegations, stating on X that he was indeed permitted to work in the U.S. and accusing Biden of not telling the truth. The controversy also involves an email from 2005 where Musk admitted to lacking the legal status to work in the U.S. when he founded Zip2, his early company.
The issue has gained significant attention as Musk has been actively involved in the current presidential campaign, supporting Republican candidate Donald Trump and other GOP figures. Trump has promised Musk a position in his administration if he wins the election.
