Big Rig Crash Causes Delays on I-80 Connector in West Sacramento
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Heavy traffic delays occurred Thursday morning along the Interstate 80 connector to Highway 50 after a crash involving a big rig. The accident happened around 7:10 a.m. when a big rig collided with another vehicle, blocking eastbound lanes of Highway 50.
A spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol‘s Woodland division reported that the passenger in the other vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, officials do not suspect drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident. However, they believe weather conditions played a role in the crash.
The overturned trailer of the big rig led to a temporary closure of the westbound connector. Traffic remained backed up until lanes reopened at approximately 9:19 a.m. KCRA 3’s weather team had previously declared an Impact Day due to the wet and windy conditions affecting travel in the Valley, Foothills, and Sierra.
Authorities advise motorists to exercise caution on the roads during such adverse weather conditions. The California Highway Patrol continues to monitor the situation and urged drivers to stay informed about traffic updates.
