Bill Maher George W. Bush Podcast

LOS ANGELES, CA – Comedian Bill Maher expressed a newfound appreciation for former President George W. Bush during a recent episode of his podcast, Club Random, which aired on October 20. Maher, known for his long-time criticism of Bush, stated that his perspective has shifted, especially in light of the current political climate.

While interviewing Extra host Billy Bush, who is also a cousin of the former president, Maher admitted he was “hard” on Bush when he was in office from January 20, 2001, to January 20, 2009. “I was hard [on Bush], I’m not taking it back,” he said. Maher, who opposed the invasion of Iraq and many of Bush’s Republican policies, acknowledged that, upon reflection, he could have been more reasonable in his criticism.

Billy Bush encouraged Maher to pursue a conversation with Bush, describing the former president as an “easy hang” and “quite funny.” Maher agreed, saying he would “love to talk to [Bush]” on the show.

During the podcast, Maher also offered some praise for Bush’s decision to privatize Social Security, saying that it “wasn’t like the worst idea.” He noted the grace Bush showed in congratulating Barack Obama after his 2008 election win, remarking, “You can’t imagine Donald Trump saying [that].”

In a more humorous segment, Bush shared a story about a past psychedelic experience, leading Maher to jokingly comment, “Can you tell W. not to go to Iraq?” Billy Bush responded jokingly that Bush “just texted me that” and was not inclined to appear on the show after that remark.
