BJP Sweeps Gurgaon District in Haryana Assembly Elections 2024
In the Haryana Assembly Elections 2024, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has claimed victory in all four assembly seats in Gurgaon district. The constituencies of Pataudi, Gurgaon, Sohna, and Badshahpur, known to be BJP strongholds, have once again reaffirmed their support for the ruling party. According to the Election Commission of India, counting of votes began at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, with results progressively being announced throughout the day.
BJP’s Mukesh Sharma emerged victorious in the Gurgaon assembly seat. Sharma, who was up against party rebel Naveen Goyal—running as an independent—secured a significant lead. Goyal, who left the BJP following a ticket dispute, was attempting to make his mark independently but found himself trailing by a large margin throughout the day.
In Badshahpur, BJP candidate Rao Narbir Singh claimed a decisive victory over Congress’s Vardhan Yadav. Singh, a prominent figure from the Ahir community, increased his victory margin from the previous state elections, defeating Yadav by over 60,000 votes.
The Pataudi assembly seat saw another BJP victory with Bimla Chaudhary overcoming Pearl Chaudhary from the Congress party. Bimla Chaudhary, a seasoned politician affiliated with MP Rao Inderjit Singh, expanded her winning margin compared to previous elections, marking a significant win for the BJP in this constituency.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Tejpal Tanwar held onto his seat in Sohna, overcoming Congress candidate Rohtas Singh Khatana. Despite an independent candidate, Kalyan Singh Chauhan, also contesting fiercely, Tanwar managed to retain a substantial lead, securing his second term in the Haryana Assembly.
The election results also reflect a broader trend across Haryana, where the BJP is leading in several constituencies, inching towards a potential third consecutive term. The party’s performance in Gurgaon is viewed as a testament to its enduring dominance in the region, notwithstanding low voter turnout, which was reported at just 57.96%. As BJP celebrates these victories, political analysts continue to assess the implications of the results for upcoming elections.
