Boar's Head Recall Cheese Listeria

Kentucky, USA — Boar’s Head products are under recall due to possible listeria contamination linked to some pecorino Romano cheese made by Ambriola Company. The recall, announced on Monday, affects Boar’s Head grated pecorino Romano cheese and FS grated Romano cheese with sell-by dates from November 21, 2025, to March 12, 2026.

The recalled items were distributed to Kroger stores in Kentucky and Indiana and are also present in the brand’s grab-and-go chicken Caesar salad and chicken Caesar wrap. Boar’s Head has stated it is recalling all products from Ambriola out of an abundance of caution, despite some products, including pre-cut pecorino Romano cheese, not testing positive for the bacteria.

This follows a severe listeria outbreak in July 2024, where contaminated deli meats from Boar’s Head resulted in 10 deaths and dozens of hospitalizations. The outbreak was traced back to a facility in Virginia and prompted the recall of over 7 million pounds of meat. Subsequent investigations revealed unsanitary conditions at the plant.

The FDA has classified this recall as Class I, meaning the contaminated products could cause serious health risks or death, especially in vulnerable populations such as the elderly and pregnant women. Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal distress, among others.

As of now, the FDA has not reported any illnesses linked to the latest recall. Food safety officials have urged customers with the recalled products to discard them immediately. Customers can contact Ambriola Company or Boar’s Head for more information regarding the recall.

Boar’s Head has faced scrutiny in the past over its food safety practices and is attempting to move forward from the listeria scandal involving its deli meats last year.
