Bob Costas Yankees Vs Royals

On Monday night, broadcaster Bob Costas unintentionally made headlines with a comment picked up on a hot microphone during the TBS broadcast of the New York Yankees versus Kansas City Royals game. Costas, engaged in commentary alongside former New York Mets star Ron Darling, expressed unease about reading a promotional piece for CNN during the game’s coverage.

According to the broadcast, Costas remarked, “CNN promo? … Puts me in a difficult spot.” The precise reasons for his discomfort are not entirely clear. However, CNN is one of the many networks owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, which also includes TBS, the channel responsible for airing the game.

Costas has been affiliated with CNN as a sports contributor since 2020 and began his current role as a baseball commentator for TBS in 2021. The promo likely presented a challenge to his broadcasting duties in that tight scenario. Despite the unusual remark, the game continued with the Kansas City Royals defeating the New York Yankees, tying the series at 1-1 with a final score of 4-2.

During the game, Salvador Perez of the Royals launched a solo home run, putting the scoreboard in motion. The match continued to intensify as Tommy Pham hit an RBI single that brought Yuli Gurriel home, seizing the lead. Maikel Garcia contributed significantly, going 4-for-5 and bringing Garrett Hampson home, who in turn, had singled home Pham in a vigorous four-run fourth inning.

Giancarlo Stanton initially put the Yankees in the lead during the third inning, driving in Gleyber Torres with a single from second base. Despite the early advantage, the Yankees were unable to hold off the Royals’ resurgence led by Garcia and others. Game 3 of the series is scheduled for Wednesday in Kansas City.
