Dustin Valencia Missing Kayaker Lake Lanier

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities have recovered a body from Lake Lanier during the ongoing search for missing kayaker Dustin Valencia. The body was found early Friday afternoon in a cove near Little Ridge Park, where Valencia was last seen.

Valencia, a 43-year-old father of five, was reported missing by his wife on Wednesday afternoon after he failed to pick up their children from school. Using a phone tracking application, she located his last known position near Little Ridge Park.

Game wardens from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) discovered the body using sonar equipment. Divers from the Forsyth County Fire Department retrieved the body from approximately 51 feet of water, an area described as relatively clear of underwater debris. At this time, authorities have not confirmed the identity of the individual.

During their search, deputies found Valencia’s Honda Accord parked at the lake, along with his flip-flops and a bag used for his inflatable kayak. Witnesses reported seeing his kayak and paddle floating in the cove, which helped search teams focus their efforts.

Valencia’s friends indicated he was training for a triathlon and likely went out for exercise. An official remarked on the importance of wearing life jackets, even for experienced swimmers, stating, “My understanding is that he was not wearing a life vest. Even strong swimmers can have a medical emergency or cramp.”

As the search and recovery efforts continue, loved ones are asking for support and prayers for Valencia’s family during this challenging time. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident but do not suspect foul play.
