Long Island Homeowner Pool Body Discovery

East Shoreham, New York – A homeowner made a shocking discovery when he uncovered his pool for the summer Sunday afternoon, finding a man’s body floating in the water. Suffolk County Police confirmed the call to 911 was made after the homeowner pulled off the pool cover.

Neighbors are left wondering who the deceased man might be and how he ended up in the pool. One neighbor, Paul Gawreluk, expressed disbelief, saying, “I don’t know why somebody would try to get under the cover. It’s not a smart thing to do.”

Police are investigating the incident and are looking into the strong possibility that the body belongs to 23-year-old Matthew Zoll. Zoll has been a fugitive since allegedly stabbing his father, Joseph Zoll, to death last November in Rocky Point, New York. East Shoreham is located just a short distance from Rocky Point.

Suffolk County Police Department Commissioner Kevin Catalina stated that the county medical examiner will attempt to identify the body and establish the cause of death. Catalina noted that the body appears to have been in the pool for some time.

Sharon Healey, another neighbor, reflected on the situation, saying, “It was very strange…We all thought he just left town. Got on a train or a bus.” She added that police had conducted a lengthy search for Zoll last fall but were unable to locate him.

The body was found without shoes, and the clothing resembled what Zoll was wearing during his last sighting. The investigation revealed that Matthew was involved in a single-vehicle crash shortly after the alleged murder, close to where the body was discovered.

As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, and neighbors hope for answers about the startling find. Healey summed up the sentiment, stating, “That would be good, but again, it’s heartbreaking.”
