Princeton University Campus, Lake Carnegie Search Efforts

PRINCETON, N.J. — The body of missing Princeton University student Lauren Blackburn was found in Lake Carnegie on the morning of April 25, 2025. The discovery was confirmed in an email from Regan Crotty, Dean of Undergraduate Students.

Blackburn, 23, had been reported missing after last being seen on April 19 around 6 p.m. near the Firestone Library. A native of Indiana, he was approximately six feet, two inches tall, weighed 170 pounds, and had brown hair and eyes. Blackburn was last seen wearing blue jeans with torn knees, a yellow t-shirt, and a black, zippered hooded sweatshirt.

The search for Blackburn intensified after his phone was traced to the area around Lake Carnegie, prompting public safety officials to initiate a water search. Crews began searching the lake around midnight before his body was discovered on Thursday morning.

Princeton’s Department of Public Safety led the investigation, with support from local law enforcement, which utilized sonar, drones, and K-9 units. Vice President for Campus Life W. Rochelle Calhoun had previously communicated with the university community about the search, highlighting the availability of counseling resources during this distressing time.

Calhoun expressed hope for Blackburn’s safe return in her communications with the students and staff, stating, “I will share an update when we know more, but in the meantime, please hold Lauren in your thoughts as we attempt to locate him.” However, hope turned to sorrow with the news of his discovery.

Blackburn was recognized as a promising English major and had received a scholarship aimed at underprivileged students. He also contributed as a features writer for Princeton’s daily newspaper, the ‘Prince.’ The university community mourns the loss of a vibrant young individual.

Princeton’s Department of Public Safety urges anyone with further information to reach out to them at (609) 258-1000.
