Bollywood Actress Urmila Matondkar and Husband Mohsin Akhtar Mir Rumoured to Divorce
Urmila Matondkar, a well-known Bollywood actress and politician, is reportedly experiencing marital issues with her husband, Mohsin Akhtar Mir, which have led to rumors of their impending divorce. India Today Digital has reported that the couple is already separated, with sources claiming that Matondkar is actively seeking to formalize the divorce. The actress is also said to be keen on making a return to the film industry.
Despite widespread speculation and media inquiries, both Urmila Matondkar and Mohsin Akhtar Mir have not responded to requests for comments regarding the situation. A source quoted by India Today Digital stated, “Urmila is seeking a divorce from Mohsin and wants to focus on her work. She wants to make a comeback to films. However, the two have been staying separately for quite some time.”
The couple first met through their mutual friend, the noted designer Manish Malhotra. Their marriage, which took place privately in Mumbai with only close family and friends present, has now reportedly hit a rough patch after eight years. The age gap between the two, with Matondkar being older by ten years, was widely discussed when they got married. Urmila Matondkar is 50 years old, while Mohsin Akhtar Mir is 40 years old.
Professionally, Urmila Matondkar made her Bollywood debut as a child artist in the 1983 film “Masoom,” and later rose to fame with several hit films, including “Rangeela.” She ventured into politics, contesting in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North on a Congress ticket, although unsuccessfully. After her defeat, she resigned from the Congress and joined Shiv Sena in 2020.
In terms of financial assets, according to her 2019 election affidavit, Matondkar declared possession of assets worth INR 68.28 crore, including liquid assets and immovable properties, along with jewelry, vehicles, and insurance policies. Notable among her properties is a residential building in Mumbai’s Bandra West valued at over INR 9 crore. She also detailed liabilities in the form of loans amounting to over INR 51 lakh at the time.
