MUMBAI, India — Veteran Bollywood actor Deb Mukherjee passed away on March 14, 2025, at the age of 83. He died at 9:30 a.m. in the hospital after struggling with health issues. A funeral is scheduled for 4 p.m. today at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Juhu.

Mukherjee, known for his roles in films such as ‘Abhinetri’ and ‘Ek Baar Muskurado,’ was deeply rooted in the Bollywood community as the father of acclaimed filmmaker Ayan Mukerji and father-in-law of prominent director Ashutosh Gowariker. His passing has affected many within the industry.

Numerous celebrities came to pay their respects at the Mukerji residence, including actress Kajol, who is also Mukherjee’s niece. Kajol was seen alongside her mother, legendary actress Tanuja, providing support during this difficult time.

Jaya Bachchan, a close friend of the family, visited the Mukerji home, visibly saddened as she embraced Kajol. Both actress and her daughter Shweta Bachchan expressed their condolences during this time of mourning.

Actors Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor interrupted their vacation in Alibaug to attend the funeral. The couple had planned to celebrate Alia’s 32nd birthday but returned to Mumbai upon hearing the news. They arrived at the Mukerji home early Friday to show their support.

Filmmakers Karan Johar and Anil Kapoor also attended the funeral, reflecting Mukherjee’s lasting impact on the film industry. Among others present were veteran actor Kiran Kumar and musician Shaan, who attended with his wife, offering their condolences to the Mukerji family.

Mukherjee’s contributions to Hindi cinema and his family’s legacy will be fondly remembered by his friends, family, and fans alike. The community is grieving not just the loss of an accomplished actor but also a cherished family member.
