Braintree Little League Eyes World Title Amid Boston Heat Emergency

Braintree, Massachusetts — As temperatures in Boston rise and a heat emergency goes into effect, the local Little League team is making headlines by competing in the World Series. The Braintree American team prepares to play again on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The team has already faced challenges, including a tough opening game that ended in a record-breaking 13-0 shutout. However, the players are remaining optimistic. Sam Trotta, one of the team’s members, expressed excitement, saying, ‘Love seeing it all.’ Teammate Ryan Fennell added, ‘Competing with the best of the best is exciting.’
In addition to the players, parents and local community members have shown their support. Teddy Doolin, the parent of a player, shared, ‘We are so proud of the boys and everything they have accomplished this summer.’ Ethel Keane, who drove to Pennsylvania to cheer for her neighbor’s son on the team, noted the joyful atmosphere, stating, ‘Just awesome pulling in, seeing all the stuff.’
Meanwhile, Boston officials have issued a heat emergency starting Monday and running through Wednesday, where temperatures are expected to reach the 90s. Mayor Michelle Wu emphasized the city’s commitment to resident safety during this intense heat, encouraging everyone to stay cool and check on neighbors. The Boston Centers for Youth & Families will open cooling centers during the emergency, and various splash pads and pools will be available as respite.
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has also warned about the air quality in several counties, indicating unhealthy ozone levels for sensitive groups.
As Braintree takes the field for their next challenge against the Southwest team from Richmond, Texas, local supporters are rallying around them. Regardless of the game outcome, their hometown remains proud. Longtime resident Jeff Keane affirmed, ‘They are still the hometown heroes.’
