Overland Park Events March 2025

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — March is set to be a vibrant month in Overland Park with a series of engaging events for residents to welcome spring and shake off winter’s chill. From art exhibitions to concerts, the city is ready to offer activities that cater to families, art enthusiasts, and community members.

The Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens opens March with a unique experience: a guided walk featuring the story “The Prairie that Nature Built,” starting from the Education Center. Visitors can enjoy the one-mile round trip while immersing themselves in nature. Admission is included with entry to the Arboretum.

This month also showcases the work of celebrated watercolor artist J.R. “Jim” Hamil, whose exhibit runs from March 4 to April 30 at the Overland Park Arboretum. The exhibit features original works and vibrant floral prints, available for purchase. Hamil’s art has been admired in countless homes across the Midwest for over five decades.

Another notable exhibit is “The Road to Home: The Journey from Homelessness to Home,” displaying Randy Bacon’s evocative photography from now until March 17. This collection offers poignant glimpses into the lives of individuals overcoming homelessness, inviting reflection on shared human experiences.

On March 2, music lovers can attend a free concert at the Matt Ross Community Center, featuring pieces by Mozart and Brahms performed by the Overland Park Orchestra. Families can also participate in various children’s programs and craft activities throughout the month.

The city’s governing meetings are also on the agenda, including Mayor and Council sessions on March 3 and notable committee meetings aimed at community development and urban planning.

In spirit of community involvement, the Legacy of Greenery Committee meets on March 6, and there will be opportunities to volunteer at the Arboretum on March 8. The month will also see the community gather for the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade at Clock Tower Plaza.

March 4 not only marks the opening of Jim Hamil’s exhibit, but it also features Free Admission Day at the Arboretum, providing a chance for everyone to explore the gardens and enjoy craft activities for children. Moreover, a special artist reception for Bacon’s photography will be held on March 6, welcoming all to appreciate the compelling narratives behind the images.

For bird watchers, a guided expedition on March 23 through the Arboretum’s vast landscapes promises a chance to observe nearly 100 different bird species, enhancing the thrill of outdoor exploration.

With such a diverse lineup of events, Overland Park is poised to make March a month of creativity, connection, and community engagement.
