British Airways Flight BA158 Aborted After Bomb Threat Email Received Seconds Before Takeoff
A British Airways flight bound for London Heathrow from Bermuda was abruptly halted moments before takeoff due to a bomb threat email received by airport authorities.
The incident occurred on Flight BA158, which was operated by a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft departing from LF Wade International Airport in Bermuda.
Shortly before the scheduled departure time, the pilot of the flight issued an emergency signal, known as a squawk 7700, prompting air traffic control to cancel the final takeoff clearance.
Upon receiving the bomb threat email, airport officials swiftly evacuated the passengers from the aircraft onto the tarmac, while police and anti-terror officers conducted thorough searches.
Authorities in Bermuda closed off roads within a six-mile radius of the airport as a precautionary measure following the threat.
The specific British Airways flight, which was targeted in the email warning, was slated to depart for London Heathrow in the evening hours.
Due to the security alert and subsequent investigation, the flight was ultimately abandoned, causing significant disruption for the passengers on board.
Passengers were left stranded at the airport as hotel accommodations were scarce due to a sailing grand prix event taking place in the area.
In a statement following the incident, British Airways emphasized that the safety of their customers and crew members is always their top priority, and they are working diligently to assist affected passengers.
An official from LF Wade International Airport confirmed that emergency landing protocols were activated as a result of the bomb threat received via email.
