Brittany Higgins Announces Pregnancy Amid Legal Battles

Former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins, known for her advocacy on sexual assault issues, revealed on social media that she and her husband David Sharaz are expecting their first child. The heartwarming announcement was made via Instagram with a charming image of baby clothes hanging on a clothesline.

Overjoyed by the news, Higgins shared, “Can’t wait to meet you! Beyond excited to welcome a new member to our little family.” The couple’s Instagram post was flooded with congratulatory messages and warm wishes from supporters, industry peers, and loved ones.

Renowned journalist Tracey Spicer expressed her happiness, saying, “How wonderful – huge congratulations!” Leading advocate Hannah Diviney shared her excitement, “What a beautiful lucky glorious thing for this little one to have you as its mama.” Influential figure Wendy Mccarthy also joined in, stating, “I am so thrilled to read this, enjoy every minute of prep and dreaming and planning and love.”

Higgins and Sharaz recently exchanged vows in a picturesque ceremony on the Gold Coast, following their engagement on New Year’s Eve at the Cape Byron lighthouse in Byron Bay, NSW. The couple made a significant move to the south of France in December, where they purchased a new home.

The love story began when Higgins, then a Liberal staffer, crossed paths with Sharaz, a producer for Sky News Australia, in 2020. Despite their exciting news, the couple is entangled in legal battles with Higgins’ former boss, Reynolds, who has filed defamation suits against both Higgins and Sharaz.

Amid legal complexities, a Federal Court ruling earlier this year established that former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann did indeed, based on a civil trial standard, commit sexual assault against Higgins. This revelation has triggered further legal moves from Reynolds, targeting Higgins’ compensation claims and alleging various grounds for legal action.
