Bronx Car Explosion Injures Six Firefighters Wednesday Evening
BRONX, New York – A car explosion injured six firefighters in the Bronx on Wednesday evening, according to officials. The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) responded to the incident around 7:06 p.m. at the intersection of Westchester Avenue and Intervale Avenue.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as flames erupted from a vehicle and spread rapidly. Frank Rojas, 26, an Amazon delivery driver, witnessed the explosion and said, “The fire started in the trash outside an apartment building and spread under the car. The first popping was from the trash and the second explosion was the car. The flames flew way up. It was a fireball.”
Cellphone video captured the incident, showing towering flames and smoke that filled the night sky. Three vehicles were damaged in the explosion, including a fire truck that responded to the scene. The fire was brought under control by 8:19 p.m., authorities reported.
The injured firefighters were transported to Jacobi Hospital for evaluation, where their conditions were not immediately available. Fortunately, no civilian injuries were reported, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD).
As of now, the cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area as they continue their inquiry into the incident.
