BROOKFIELD, Conn. — A chimney fire at a Brookfield home late Monday night prompted emergency crews to cut power to nearby residences as a safety precaution, officials said Tuesday.

The Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company responded around 11 p.m. to a home on Chickadee Lane after reports of a chimney fire. Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames extending into the interior ceiling, prompting an upgrade to a working fire status.

“Due to road conditions, the electrical grid was shut down remotely by Eversource until a road crew was able to secure the residential service,” officials stated in a Facebook post. The power outage was implemented to ensure the safety of firefighters and residents. Eversource, the local utility company, restored power shortly after the incident.

Additional firefighting resources were requested from neighboring towns, including New Milford, Stony Hill, Bethel, Bridgewater, and Hawleyville. Brookfield Public Works also assisted by ensuring safe passage for emergency vehicles and personnel.

“Thankfully there were no injuries to any residents or responders,” officials added. The Brookfield Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

Residents affected by the outage were notified that power would be restored promptly. Officials praised the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies, stating, “A huge thank you to Brookfield Public Works for responding to the area upon our initial dispatch and ensuring a safe passage for all the apparatus, personnel, and family members.”
