Brush Fire Closes Route 87 South of Payson, Arizona

PAYSON, Ariz. — Access to Arizona State Route 87 may be restricted on Friday due to a brush fire in the area of Deer Creek, south of Payson. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) reported that SR-87 is closed in both directions because of the fire.

The southbound lanes are blocked near the State Route 188 junction, while the northbound lanes are closed at Bush Highway near Fountain Hills. The Tonto National Forest stated that the brush fire covers approximately 3-5 acres near milepost 234. Crews are currently working to contain the fire.

ADOT has not provided an estimated time for when the highway may reopen. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Authorities urge drivers to avoid the area and seek alternative routes until the situation is under control.
