Brush Fire Erupts Near I-405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks
SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. — Firefighters are battling a brush fire that broke out in the Sepulveda Basin near the I-405 Freeway late Wednesday. The blaze, dubbed the Sepulveda Fire, was first reported just after 11 p.m. near the northbound lanes of the freeway, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fire has burned approximately 10 acres of heavy brush, officials said. Winds in the area are currently at 5 mph, which could influence the fire’s spread. As of now, there is no threat to nearby structures, and no evacuation orders or warnings have been issued.
The Sepulveda Basin, a large flood control area and recreational space, is known for its dense vegetation, which can fuel rapid fire growth. Firefighters are working to contain the blaze before it spreads further.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and have deployed additional resources to ensure the fire does not escalate,” a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department said. “Residents in the area should remain vigilant but are not in immediate danger.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities are urging drivers to avoid the area and expect delays on the I-405 Freeway as emergency crews continue their operations.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
