Brush Fire Near Moorpark Ventura County

A significant brush fire has erupted near Moorpark in Ventura County, California, prompting evacuations and road closures in the area. The fire, which has been classified as a second-alarm blaze, is located on South Mountain near the 7900 block of Balcom Canyon and Bradley Road, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

The fire is being fueled by strong winds, which are contributing to challenging conditions for firefighters. The area is under a Red Flag Warning, issued by the National Weather Service, due to the high fire danger posed by the Santa Ana winds. This warning is in effect from Wednesday at 4am through Thursday at 6pm for all areas of Ventura County.

Evacuations have been ordered for residents in the vicinity of the fire, and several roads have been closed to ensure public safety. SkyFOX footage shows large plumes of smoke near the 118 Freeway, indicating the fire’s proximity to residential areas and major highways.

In addition to the fire, Southern California Edison is monitoring the situation for a possible Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event, which could affect areas including Ventura, South Coast, Moorpark, and Simi Valley. Customers who may be impacted by the PSPS will be notified directly by the utility company.

The situation is developing, and authorities are urging residents to stay informed and follow evacuation orders to ensure their safety.
