Rancho Bernardo Brush Fire San Diego 2023

RANCHO BERNARDO, Calif. — A brush fire erupted Wednesday morning in Rancho Bernardo, injuring one person and prompting evacuation warnings as flames threatened nearby structures, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue (SDFD).

The fire, dubbed the Center Fire, began around 8:55 a.m. near Bernardo Center Drive and Camino del Norte. SDFD responded alongside Poway Fire, deploying 55 firefighters, three brush rigs, six fire engines, and three firefighting helicopters to combat the blaze.

One individual sustained burn injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, officials said. The cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the injury remain under investigation.

Authorities warned that the fire had the potential to spread across 100 acres and that evacuations were “imminent” as the flames approached residential and commercial structures. Residents were urged to stay alert and prepare to leave if necessary.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
