Brush Fire Spreads to Homes in Studio City, Prompting Major Fire Response
A brush fire erupted on a freeway off-ramp in Studio City, Los Angeles, on Sunday evening, quickly spreading to nearby homes and vegetation. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) and California Highway Patrol responded to the scene at approximately 8:18 p.m. after reports of flames near the southbound 101 Freeway off-ramp at Laurel Canyon Boulevard.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy fire spreading up the hillside, threatening nearby residences. The blaze engulfed a four-story home on Sunswept Drive and spread to adjacent properties and brush. Firefighters worked in defensive mode to contain the flames and prevent further spread into vegetation. The fire caused one home to collapse onto the hillside after destroying its stilts.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no injuries have been reported. The LAFD has not yet determined whether the brush fire and the residential fire are connected. Residents in the area were advised to stay alert as crews continued to monitor hot spots and ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
Studio City, a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley, is no stranger to wildfires due to its proximity to dry hillsides. The incident highlights the ongoing fire risks in Southern California, particularly during dry and windy conditions.
