Bushfire Emergency Threatens Homes In City Of Swan, Residents Urged To Evacuate

Residents in the north-eastern region of Perth are facing an urgent situation as firefighters battle a severe bushfire in the City of Swan. The emergency warning has been escalated, prompting residents in areas such as Red Hill, Millendon, Herne Hill, and Baskerville to evacuate immediately.

The expanded emergency warning now includes parts of Red Hill, Millendon, Herne Hill, and Baskerville, urging people to take immediate action to ensure their safety. The at-risk area is bounded by several key landmarks, from Haddrill Road to the north to Red Hill Quarry in the east.

An evacuation center has been established at the Brown Park Recreation Complex on Salisbury Road in Swan View, providing residents with a safe space to seek shelter and assistance.

Authorities have issued a watch and act alert for sections of Gidgegannup, Herne Hill, and Middle Swan, advising residents to stay informed and prepared for potential further developments.

The bushfire, which initially started near Toodyay Road in Gidgegannup, was reported just after midday on Tuesday. As of now, the fire is not contained or controlled, presenting a significant challenge to firefighting efforts.

With about 120 firefighters on the ground and aerial support in place, emergency services are working tirelessly to combat the blaze and safeguard lives and properties in the affected areas. The fire is currently moving in a westward direction, fueled by unfavorable weather conditions.

The smoke emanating from the fire has become a visible concern across the Perth metropolitan area, leading to disruptions, including flight delays at Perth Airport. Some flights have been impacted by the smoke, affecting operations in the vicinity.
