Byron Scott Lakers Legend Sexual Assault Allegations 1987

LOS ANGELES, CA — Byron Scott, a former Los Angeles Lakers player and coach, has been accused of sexually assaulting a high school student 38 years ago. The allegation came from Hayley Dylan, who has filed a 20-page lawsuit against Scott, accusing him of sexual battery, sexual assault, false imprisonment, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The incident reportedly occurred in a locked janitor’s closet at Campbell Hall School in 1987.

Dylan, then 15, alleges Scott, who was 26 at the time, lured her away from other adults during a Lakers event at the school. According to the complaint, while other students and parents were asked to leave, Scott pointed to Dylan saying, “she can stay” and escorted her to an area away from supervision.

The lawsuit states that Scott then forced himself on Dylan, who was bewildered and frightened, pushing her into the closet where the alleged assault took place. After she pleaded for him to stop, he eventually let her go.

Dylan claims that after the incident, she was left without a way home, and Scott discouraged her from speaking about what had happened. She called her mother for a ride from a payphone. Dylan’s attorney, Kerry Garvis Wright, confirmed that Dylan had chosen to reveal her identity as part of the legal proceedings.

Scott’s attorney, Linda Bauermeister, acknowledged that an incident occurred but asserted that Scott believed Dylan was over 18 at the time. “Our client is devastated by this complaint. He respects girls and women, and the claims have blindsided him and his family,” she told the Daily Mail.

The incident is said to have occurred during a summer basketball event where Scott was participating in filming an instructional video for youth. Dylan was reportedly attending a math class at the school during that time.

The lawsuit cites that Campbell Hall School failed to take necessary precautions to safeguard Dylan during the Lakers’ visit. Dylan is seeking a trial by jury and over $25,000 in damages.

Scott, who won three NBA championships with the Lakers, has not publicly commented further. His legal team is preparing to address the lawsuit.
