Byu Basketball Vs Iowa State March 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — No. 17 BYU basketball is set to clash with No. 12 Iowa State in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time. This matchup comes following BYU’s thrilling 88-85 double-overtime victory over the Cyclones on March 4.

The Cougars, who entered the tournament with an impressive eight-game winning streak, including victories over Kansas and Arizona, are looking to build on their momentum. Head Coach Kevin Young emphasized the importance of consistency ahead of this critical rematch, stating, “Don’t turn the ball over,” as a key area of focus.

Young acknowledged the anticipation surrounding the upcoming game, saying, “As a competitor, that’s what you look forward to. Being able to hopefully right some of the wrongs from this (March 4) game… that’ll be a big-time game.” Iowa State, fresh off a 76-56 win over Cincinnati, will aim for redemption as they try to leverage their experience in tournament play.

In their previous encounter, BYU was propelled to victory despite committing 29 turnovers, highlighting their resilience. Joshua Jefferson, an Iowa State player, noted the challenge posed by BYU’s aggressive play, stating, “We just need to come out with a good sense of urgency against them tomorrow. It will help us get it done.” Iowa State coach T.J. Otzelberger praised BYU’s performance, remarking, “They’re playing at an extremely high level. They came into our building and did a great job and earned a victory.”

Both teams boast strong NCAA Tournament resumes and are expected to make postseason appearances. However, the significance of the Big 12 Tournament remains high, especially for teams looking to enhance their seeding. Young reassured fans that his team is focused, adding, “I always preface cliches by saying, ‘I know this is cliche, but…’ it really has been our mantra and taking things game by game and day by day. So that approach for me is not going to change.”

Iowa State’s injury report raises questions about the status of key players. Guard Keshon Gilbert has been managing a muscle strain and did not play in the second half against Cincinnati. Coach Otzelberger will evaluate him closer to the game. Tamin Lipsey, another guard, tweaked his groin but is expected to play after expressing confidence in his recovery.

The matchup marks the first time BYU will face Iowa State in Kansas City since joining the Big 12 last season. With both teams riding high after solid seasons, fans expect an electrifying game, as BYU and Iowa State both vie for a chance to advance to the semifinals. The match will be aired on ESPN2, with pregame coverage starting at 9 a.m. MDT on KSL NewsRadio.
