Cal Fire Crews Battling Small Fires In San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Cal Fire crews responded to two small fires Monday amid gusty Santa Ana winds and low humidity, creating dangerous fire weather conditions in San Diego County. One fire broke out near a U.S. Navy facility in the Cleveland National Forest, while the other involved a recreational vehicle in the community of Bonsall.

The Bonsall fire ignited shortly after 9 a.m. at 31951 Via Ararat, according to Cal Fire. Firefighters quickly contained the RV fire, knocking it down by 9:23 a.m. No injuries or structural damage were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.

At 10:25 a.m., crews responded to a second fire near the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) training facility off state Highway 79 in Warner Springs. The vegetation fire scorched half an acre before being contained by 10:50 a.m. Fire officials confirmed no injuries or structural damage occurred, and cleanup efforts were ongoing.

Both fires occurred during heightened fire risk due to strong Santa Ana winds and low humidity, which have been a recurring concern for Southern California this season. Cal Fire emphasized the importance of vigilance during such conditions, urging residents to report any signs of fire immediately.

“Our crews acted swiftly to contain these fires before they could escalate,” a Cal Fire spokesperson said. “The combination of dry vegetation and strong winds creates a volatile environment, and we’re grateful for the quick response that prevented further damage.”

San Diego County has experienced multiple fire incidents this year, with Cal Fire and local agencies working to mitigate risks. The agency continues to monitor weather conditions and deploy resources strategically to address potential threats.
