Camila Fernández Breaks Barriers in Mariachi Music

Guadalajara, Mexico – Camila Fernández, the first female mariachi performer in her family, is making strides in a traditionally male-dominated industry. She strives to honor her family legacy while empowering women in music.
Camila, daughter of Alejandro Fernández and granddaughter of Vicente Fernández, draws inspiration from her family’s history. However, she faces the challenge of dismantling stereotypes as she steps onto the mariachi stage. “I want to win over hearts that once doubted me, to fall in love with my project and songs,” she said. “I aim to be a strong woman for my daughter and for all the girls in my generation, giving them a voice in the industry.”
With nearly ten years in her career, Camila has already released successful songs like “Todo todo” and “Retumbando en el cora.” She emphasizes blending traditional mariachi elements with modern influences to connect with younger audiences. “Mariachi must always be present and have a traditional base while speaking to young people in a fresher language,” she explained.
Her latest single, “Culpa mía,” features a collaboration with Luis Antonio López, known as “el Mimoso.” Camila recalls, “From the first second I heard this song, I knew it needed a voice like Mimoso’s. We spoke to him, and he was eager to collaborate. Everything fell into place!”
“Culpa mía” is included in her album “la Fernández,” showcasing her unique approach to mariachi music.
