This week, fans of Cartoon Network were surprised to find the entire cartoonnetwork.com website pulled offline. Instead of its usual vibrant content, visitors are now met with a simple landing page that redirects them to Max, the company’s subscription streaming service.

The shutdown happened on August 8, and the new Max landing page tells users, “Looking for episodes of your favorite Cartoon Network shows? Check out what’s available to stream on Max (subscription required).” The page encourages viewers to sign up for Max where they can also create a kids’ profile to maintain a fun and kid-friendly viewing experience.

A spokesperson for Cartoon Network explained the decision, saying, “We are focusing on the Cartoon Network shows and social media where we find consumers are the most engaged.” They also mentioned that the Cartoon Network continues to air 11 hours of programming every day from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on cable.

Previously, the Cartoon Network website was a treasure trove for fans, offering full episodes and clips from popular shows like Adventure Time, Craig of the Creek, The Amazing World of Gumball, Teen Titans GO!, and others. It also included games featuring characters from these beloved series.

This move to shut down the website comes right after Warner Bros. Discovery announced some financial challenges. They reported a revenue drop in their latest earnings, and it seems this decision is part of a larger cost-cutting strategy to boost subscriptions for Max.

Interestingly, Cartoon Network isn’t the only channel making these changes. Paramount Global recently made similar cuts, removing content from its own cable channels as well. The trend suggests a shifting landscape in how content is delivered and accessed by audiences.
