Cassie Laundrie Gabby Petito Netflix Docuseries

NEW YORK, Feb. 20, 2025 — Cassie Laundrie, sister of Brian Laundrie, recently shared her heartache in a Netflix docuseries about her late brother and Gabby Petito, who was murdered in 2021. The mini-series, titled American Murder: Gabby Petito, delves into the tragic events leading up to Petito’s death and the ensuing investigations.

In an interview included in the series, Cassie described her emotional turmoil following the deaths of her brother, Brian, who died by suicide shortly after Petito was found dead, and expressed feelings of disconnection from her parents, Christopher and Roberta Laundrie. “I am losing my parents and my brother and my children’s aunt and future sister-in-law on top of this,” she said. Her comments underscore the devastating impact the case has had on the Laundrie family.

After Brian’s death, Cassie stated she had no contact with her parents for nearly two years, a decision she articulated on her social media during a backlash over her family’s involvement in the tragedy. While the Laundrie parents have consistently been scrutinized for their silence during the investigation, Cassie stressed that her experiences have been just as painful.

In the docuseries, she confirmed that she had been finding out about the investigation through the news, echoing the sentiments of many viewers who have followed the high-profile case. “We have literally been finding everything out with the news like everybody else,” she expressed.

Timeline discrepancies regarding communications between the Laundrie family and law enforcement have surfaced. In the docuseries, it was claimed that efforts to reach out to Cassie during the search for Petito went unanswered. However, Cassie countered these allegations, asserting, “No one from my family contacted me until Detective Barry called me,” regarding a Suffolk County detective who allegedly misrepresented information she provided.

Following the release of the docuseries, Steven Bertolino, the attorney for the Laundrie family, issued a statement to the press indicating that the portrayal of events was not entirely accurate. “The documentary contained many inaccuracies, incorrect juxtapositions of timelines, and misstatements and omissions of fact,” Bertolino stated. He maintained that the Laundrie family had expected the narrative presented to them.

Cassie also emphatically distanced herself from her brother’s alleged actions, asserting her independence from her family’s decisions. “If you’re new here… I’ve been non-contact with my parents for almost two years,” she articulated online, defending her position amidst public criticism following the documentary’s release.

Meanwhile, Gabby Petito’s parents have publicly expressed their grievances, highlighting attempts to engage with Cassie while their daughter was missing that were not reciprocated. In light of the ongoing turmoil, both families have faced intense scrutiny over their roles in the events surrounding Petito’s disappearance and death.

The tragic circumstances surrounding Brian Laundrie’s suicide and the investigation into Gabby Petito’s death highlight a pressing need for better mental health awareness and support systems, a cause that Cassie Laundrie has been vocal about since the events unfolded.

As the documentary continues to garner attention, it sheds light on the emotional struggles of those involved while also prompting society to engage in important conversations regarding mental health and the dynamics of familial relationships in times of crisis.
