NEW ORLEANS — The Causeway Bridge reopened Tuesday evening after closing briefly due to severe weather conditions. The bridge was shut down around 4:45 p.m. as thunderstorms swept across the region, bringing heavy rain, strong crosswinds, and low visibility.

Officials decided to close the bridge citing safety concerns. The closure lasted approximately 35 minutes, with the bridge reopening around 5:20 p.m. Local authorities, including the Causeway Police, issued a warning to motorists regarding hazardous driving conditions.

The Causeway Commission confirmed they would continue to monitor the weather and provide updates to ensure the safety of commuters. Severe thunderstorm warnings remained in effect for parts of Southeast Louisiana, including St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes, until at least 5:30 p.m. A flood advisory was also issued for New Orleans until 8:15 p.m.

Weather reports indicated that heavy rains and lightning would continue to affect the area. These adverse weather conditions have caused delays and disruptions for many travelers, prompting officials to act swiftly for safety reasons.

As the situation develops, the Causeway Commission urges all individuals to stay informed about local weather conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly.
