CBI Probes Doctor’s Murder in Kolkata
The Central Bureau of Investigation, or CBI, has been given the green light to conduct a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy. He is the main suspect in the shocking rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata‘s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Earlier, on Saturday, the CBI performed a psychoanalysis test on Roy, who is currently in their custody. The Kolkata Police arrested him just a day after the body of the young doctor was discovered in the seminar hall of the hospital early Friday morning.
Roy began working with the Kolkata Police as a civic volunteer back in 2019. Reports suggest he became well-acquainted with senior police officers over the years. Eventually, he was assigned to the Kolkata Police Welfare Board and was posted at the outpost located within RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
This horrifying case has sparked a wave of anger across the nation, with many in the medical community calling for justice and stricter laws to protect healthcare professionals.
According to findings from the Indian Express, the woman sadly died due to manual strangulation and smothering. Autopsy results have also reportedly shown signs of sexual assault, with evidence of “forceful penetration.” The victim had multiple injuries on her body, including abrasions scattered across her cheeks, lips, neck, arms, and knees.
Meanwhile, the CBI has been busy interviewing the ex-principal of the college, Sandip Ghosh, for the fourth day in a row. They are questioning him about his actions upon learning of the doctor’s death and what decisions he made regarding renovations near the seminar hall where the incident occurred.
