Celtic Ranks Ninth in Global Squad Value Outside UEFA’s Top 10 Leagues
A recent analysis conducted by Football Benchmark reveals that Celtic Football Club holds the ninth most valuable squad globally, excluding UEFA‘s top 10 ranked associations. The study highlights the financial stature of teams outside the elite European leagues.
According to the valuation, Celtic’s squad is estimated to be worth €137 million, with an average player age of 26. This positions them among the top football clubs worldwide from regions outside UEFA’s upper echelon, notably alongside prominent teams from Europe and South America such as River Plate, RB Salzburg, Palmeiras, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Flamengo.
Football Benchmark’s valuation tool, updated in September, indicates that several clubs from Saudi Arabia are among those with the highest total squad values. These include Al-Itthad, Al-Hilal, Al-Ahli, and Al-Nassr, which is known for having Cristiano Ronaldo among its ranks.
The Brazilian football club Flamengo ranks highest on the list, boasting a squad valuation of €210 million. Within global football discussions, particularly when excluding major European leagues like the Premier League, La Liga, and Bundesliga, it is perhaps unsurprising that Celtic features prominently in these rankings.
Celtic’s financial activities in the transfer market over the summer involved spending approximately £30 million. This included significant acquisitions such as Arne Engels for £11 million and Adam Idah for £9 million. The club’s ability to invest was supported by the sale of Matt O'Riley to Brighton, which generated a fee exceeding £25 million.
In related news, the Scottish Premiership clash between Celtic and Aberdeen will not be broadcast live on television. The match, deemed significant, did not make the selection for live coverage by Sky Sports during their television picks announced in early September. Instead, the broadcaster chose to air the contest between Kilmarnock and Rangers.
