CenterPoint Energy Prepares for Severe Weather in Houston
HOUSTON, Texas — CenterPoint Energy activated its storm readiness plan on Thursday in anticipation of severe weather that could lead to street flooding, gusty winds, and isolated tornadoes this weekend.
The utility company announced its preparations across the region, positioning resources and coordinating with emergency management partners to mitigate potential impacts on electric and natural gas service.
Matt Lanza, CenterPoint’s meteorology manager, stated, “Our teams are staying alert and ready to respond safely and quickly if severe weather impacts our region,” in an emailed news release.
The Emergency Management and Response team is closely monitoring weather models and updating response strategies as conditions evolve. Approximately 1,300 frontline workers and contractors are pre-positioned at 12 service centers to quickly address any service interruptions.
“While our emergency response team continues to execute CenterPoint’s storm preparedness plan, we want to ensure our customers are also taking proactive steps to keep themselves and their families safe,” said Nathan Brownell, CenterPoint’s Vice President of Resilience and Capital Delivery.
CenterPoint encourages customers to sign up for the Power Alert Service for real-time updates on outages and restoration times. The Outage Tracker is available in English and Spanish and serves as another resource during severe weather.
“Keeping our customers informed is a top priority, especially during severe weather,” said Tony Gardner, CenterPoint’s chief customer officer. “We are committed to open communication and working safely and quickly to restore service.”
