Chad Kelly Returns To Argonauts After Suspension

Toronto quarterback Chad Kelly is back in action with the Argonauts as he’s been reinstated by the CFL, following a suspension earlier this season.

The league issued a ban on May 7 that kept Kelly off the field for a good chunk of the season, including two exhibition games and at least the first nine regular-season games due to violations of its gender-based violence policy.

After serving his suspension, Kelly participated in various psychological assessments and mandatory counseling sessions, all crucial to his return. He finished serving his ban on August 9, and the CFL has confirmed that his reinstatement came with certain ongoing conditions.

The Argonauts’ general manager, Mike Clemons, expressed support for Kelly, highlighting the importance of accountability in his journey. “This is an important step for Chad, who has taken full accountability for his actions,” Clemons stated.

In the meantime, Kelly has been practicing with the team, taking the majority of snaps in practice recently. Argonauts head coach Ryan Dinwiddie aims to ramp up Kelly’s participation as they prepare to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Thursday.

Fans might remember that last year, Kelly had an impressive season, winning 15 of 16 starts, leading to a league-best record for the Argonauts. However, this year has been challenging as he missed most of the season due to his suspension.

Despite his absence, the team has not been consistent offensively, which makes Kelly’s return all the more significant as they seek to improve their performance. As they gear up for the next game, all eyes will be on Kelly and how he integrates back with the team.
