Charlottesville Police to Host Special Olympics Fundraiser on March 1

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The Charlottesville Police Department is set to host a fundraiser for the Special Olympics at Decipher Brewing on Saturday, March 1, beginning at 2 p.m.
Community members are encouraged to participate in the event, which offers two ways to contribute: entering the chili cook-off as a competitor or judge, or participating in the Polar Plunge, dubbed the ‘pink size plunge,’ for a chance to win prizes.
“It’s impactful for them and their families, so everything is set up to give these donations to these awesome talented athletes,” said CPD spokesperson Kyle Ervin. “It’s going to provide equipment, resources, everything that they need to succeed.”
The Charlottesville Police Department aims to surpass last year’s donation total of $21,000, underscoring the community’s support for individuals with intellectual disabilities in their athletic pursuits.
Those who wish to donate in the form of chili can sign up online or at the event, while the Polar Plunge will feature participants taking a brief dip in cold water to raise additional funds.
“We want everyone to come out and support this great cause,” Ervin added. “It’s about coming together as a community for a worthy cause.”
