CHICAGO, Ill. — A late-night stabbing on Chicago‘s South Side left one man dead and another hospitalized Sunday, police said. Officers responded to reports of a stabbing in the 1500 block of South Wabash Avenue at 8:50 p.m. and found a man with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries, according to Chicago Police Department spokesperson Officer Thomas Sweeney. No suspects were in custody as of Monday morning, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The incident occurred in the city’s South Loop neighborhood, a bustling area known for its mix of residential and commercial spaces. Police have not released the identities of the victims or disclosed a possible motive for the attack.

“We are actively pursuing leads and reviewing surveillance footage from the area,” Sweeney said. “Anyone with information is urged to contact the Chicago Police Department.”

This marks the latest in a series of violent incidents in the city. According to Chicago Police Department statistics, violent crime rates have fluctuated in recent years, with a slight uptick in assaults reported in 2024.

Residents in the area expressed concern over the incident. “It’s scary to think something like this could happen so close to home,” said Maria Gonzalez, a local business owner. “We need more police presence and community programs to address these issues.”

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call the CPD tip line at 312-747-8271.
