Chivas Guadalajara Soccer Team Preparation

GUADALAJARA, Mexico — Chivas Guadalajara is on the verge of securing a direct playoff spot in the Apertura 2025 tournament, with their sights set on winning the championship. Midfielder Rubén ‘Oso’ González stated that the team is focused on becoming champions as they prepare for the playoffs starting in mid-November.

“We are here to be champions, to seek that final anxiety, to bring joy to the club, to Amaury (Vergara), and to ourselves,” said González in a mixed zone interview before their match against Monterrey. “The way we have been playing and the team’s morale show that we are ready, but the best thing is to demonstrate it match by match.”

Chivas could secure the sixth spot in the standings, ensuring their qualification for the quarterfinals, if they either tie or lose against Monterrey this Saturday. If that outcome doesn’t happen, they just need to draw their last match against FC Juárez to guarantee their playoff position.

González believes that facing a strong team like Monterrey is a valuable opportunity for Chivas to gauge their readiness for the playoffs. “This match is the last of the season but hopefully serves as momentum for the playoffs. I expect the best Monterrey, and we must be fully prepared,” he explained.

Additionally, González talked about his teammate Armando González, who is currently tied for the league’s top-scorer title with 11 goals alongside Paulinho and Joao Pedro. “Armando has had opportunities and has taken advantage of them, but if we keep working together, he will continue to get chances,” González said.

Chivas has seen a remarkable turnaround this season, climbing from the bottom of the table to the crucial sixth position that promises a direct route into the playoffs. González emphasized that the entire team is eager to support Armando in his pursuit of the scoring title.

“We want him to be the champion, but it depends on him taking the chances that come his way,” González concluded. With excitement building, the team hopes to translate their efforts into success in the playoffs and a shot at the championship.
