LOS ANGELES, CA — The fifth season of the acclaimed series “The Chosen” is set to explore some of the most significant narratives from the Bible, including the final days of Jesus Christ. Premiering theatrically on March 27, 2025, the new episodes will delve into pivotal moments such as Holy Week, featuring the triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, and the betrayal by Judas.

Creator, writer, and director Dallas Jenkins expressed his excitement for the upcoming season, emphasizing its familiarity even for those who may not have followed the series. “Even if you have not seen the show before, or even if you’re not a believer, you know some of these stories,” Jenkins told the Deseret News. “In this season, you’re going to see these big, epic moments that we all know, but you’re also going to see the intimacy and relationships that are key to those stories.”

Jenkins aims to showcase the emotional weight of Jesus’s final days, highlighting the bond between Him and his disciples during a time of impending tragedy. “It’s easy for us to forget that Jesus was with his closest friends the week that he was going to die,” he noted. “What does that look like for Him? What does it mean for them when they clearly aren’t understanding what’s going to happen?”

This season is particularly significant as it precedes the culmination of the series’ seven-season arc, which has captivated audiences and become a cultural phenomenon. Jenkins invites both long-time fans and newcomers to experience these stories from the beginning. “This season is going to mean a lot more if you start with Season 1,” he advised. “I’m hopeful that people are excited to catch up and can then see Season 5 in theaters.”

The fifth season will be released in three parts, with the initial episodes premiering in theaters across the United States and Canada. The international release will start on April 10, reaching audiences in over 40 countries.

“The Chosen” has shattered previous norms in faith-based entertainment, garnering over 200 million viewers and nearly 900 million video views worldwide. Jenkins described the series as not just a portrayal of biblical figures but as a storytelling endeavor that emphasizes the human aspect of these narratives. “We want to bring the humanity into the stories we tell,” he said. “That’s what resonates with audiences.”

The full season will also be available for theatrical viewing on Palm Sunday, April 13, and during Easter weekend, April 19-20, with streaming release dates on platforms like Amazon Prime Video expected in June.
